The other day a couple of you asked me about the breakfast in one of the pictures and I thought, I should write a little post about my favourite breakfast. I eat it since a year almost every day and can't get enough of it : )

Well, I used to be a muesli person for a long long time - and still love it, but as it wasn't always so great for my stomach I decided to try a couple of new things and one of them was the great budwig breakfast recipe. It is supposed to be very healthy for you and also tastes really good - quiet a good combination I think.

How to make it.
3 table spoons (150g) quark (sort of a cottage cheese), or yoghurt, add 1-2 table spoons flaxseed oil and stir it up really well (that is the important part) until you cannot see any more oil and the yoghurt looks quiet creamy. After that add two table spoons freshly ground flaxseed.

You can also add a spoon of honey to sweeten it or nuts and fruits if you want it a bit more exciting. A couple of months ago, I poached pears in freshly squeezed orange juice with prunes and a cinnamon stick. That was also very delicious.

Tips.
Keep the flaxseed oil dark in its container and in the fridge. Also grind the flaxseed every day fresh to avoid that it get rancid.

What do you eat for breakfast?

Give it a try, it is addictive!

Maria

PS: You can read more about Mrs Budwig here and about her breakfast idea here.

Erm, sorry to mention this, but hasn't flaxseed a very laxative effect? If I'm wrong, I'll sure try your recipe!

Where, if at all, do you buy your quark Maria? I've bought it from Cyrils Deli (Haymarket in Sydney) & it was just not the same as the smooth quark from Deutschland :-(

@Annemall: I know flaxseed is supposed to be laxative, but I have never experienced it..I guess I believed into all the great stuff it also does more :)
@Chelsea: here in Sydney I make it with the great Greek Yoghurt...but I saw Quark at Harris Farms, but for 7 Dollars, which means I just have it here for Christmas or on my birthday with Quark :)

Thank you. I'd like to give it try. I normally have my muesli (with the flaxseeds still intact) with yoghurt and fruit. People here say, of course, typically German.

Oh my god! It's really addictive! I have the same breakfast (with soya yogurt, because in Italy we haven't quark - that I love!) and I can't get enough!!! :)

maja said...

instant coffee and a slice of hard bread with butter and cheese. not very inspiring, but quick and good. my boyfriend is more into yoghurt and seeds and honey and all that.

I just started to eat a healthy "wholemeal" muesli breakfast last week, which involves soaking freshly ground rye and wheat over night and then adding lemon juice, cream and ground nuts. And fruits. Lots of fruit.
Eating healthy can be so yummy at times :-)
Thanks for sharing your breakfast!

Mmm... this post has made me hungry! Reminds me a bit of the breakfast I posted not too long ago on my blog. Too often people eat boring and not all that healthy of breakfasts so it's nice to see all these fruits!

This looks sehr lecker. Thanks for the recipe. I've discovered quark since living here and it's love for me! Though, I find it hard to buy flaxseed. i used to use the flakes in Oz which kinda looked a little like fish food, ha.

I've have been lusting after Catherinehohm wares for years but just can't afford them :( Love your bowl.

xx
