'between the years'
These are some photos of the last two weeks.
Summer is so beautiful here in Sydney. You can sometimes forget about this during the mild Winters here but Summer is really something else. There is so much great produce at the markets (already looking forward to making fresh basil pesto tonight) the light of the sun, the colours of bushes and trees, this special summer scent which is in the air and just the fact that the beach or pools are so easy to reach for a quick dip into the water is so great.
We went to many swims over the holidays. The day before christmas day when we reached the Bronte rock pool quiet early in the morning the light of the sun was hitting the sea in this beautiful way (pic # 5) that I just stood there and had to watch it for some minutes. But also when I jumped into the cold water and felt the fresh, salty sea water all over me (it still takes me to count till 3 until i jump into the water) all I felt was happiness.

Brunch
I had such a nice birthday last Saturday. I wished to have lunch at the cafe Cornersmith and so we went. Cornersmith is a beautiful cafe in Marickville, a neighbourhood here in Sydney. The food there is amazing, not only do they have their own bees on the roof to make honey, they also preserve a lot of fruit and vegetables which they use for their dishes in the cafe and also mainly use local produce. Every meal I had there so far was amazing. And it is one of these places where you look out for what the people on the tables next to you eat to make sure to try this next time. I hope you all had some nice holidays...It was raining here on Christmas day which was a great reason to read, sleep and eat a lot.... :) I really like the days 'between the years' and look forward to spending them quietly with not having lots of plans....maybe just some swims here and there, some good food and maybe collecting ideas for projects for the new year.

2012
In 2010 I was looking back reflecting on the year which had past and as I was looking through my photos the other day I thought to do this again this year.
Here are a couple of days, moments and words of the last 12 months...
In January, I said Goodbye to Will again who stayed in Germany, after we celecrated Christmas with my family, to finish his Master there.
On my way back to Australia I stopped in Tokyo, where I spent a whole week. This city is simply fascinating, I wish I could go back very soon, to explore more but to also up again with my friend Hiki with whom I spent a great day this year there.
In February, a close friend from back home came to visit me in Sydney. I loved to show her all those place I like to go to...one of my highlight was our picnic up on the rooftop of my apartments building.
I also discovered 'cat alley' a wonderful street in Sydney which seems like an urban jungle with all its plants along the street
In March, I visited a friend in Melbourne and had a fantastic time exploring the city but also while catching up with some bloggers at Captain of Industry, one of the many great cafe down there
In April I flew to Perth to spend time with Will, who came over to visit is family for Easter. It was half time being separated for six month till his his exchange program had ended.
In May I flew to Germany to be there for my brothers wedding. I visited often my aunty and her beautiful garden
and spent lots of time in this beautiful, calm space.
...back in Australia after a week being in Germany I was wandering around neighborhoods taking lots and lots of photos. It is also the months I got my new/old canon camera and I fell in love with the depth of the colours this camera is able to capture.
June, Winter time in Australia, there was so much rain in Sydney and I kept myself busy on the weekends by going for photo walks, counting down the days till July...
I watched many sunrises from the roof top before going to work, being fascinated by the colours of the Winter sky.
July, oh what an exciting month. I flew back to Germany for our wedding. We started our big Summer holidays with a great meal in my aunties garden...
we went up to Hamburg to be with close friends the weekend before our wedding...
we had the most wonderful day at our wedding (so many great memories)
after our day, we went to Italy for our honeymoon, where lots of good food waited for us
August
so much gelato.
Before we headed back to Australia there were many farewells with family and friends, one of them was this last supper, again at my auntie's garden. I miss this place.
September: After the six week vacation in Europe we started the apartment hunt back in Sydney and were so lucky when found something we could imagine to live.
We really love this new place so much, and it became home very quickly.
It is so good to be back in Sydney together again
In October, we had many beautiful sunny Spring days and I went for my first swim in the Ocean at Bronte.
The days are getting longer, the mornings warmer and I started going for swims before work in November.
The magnolia trees are blossoming and also that I still find it hard to get into the Christmas mood, December is very special here in Sydney. The weather is beautiful and the smell of Summer is everywhere.
I turned 30 yesterday and had a great picnic with friends to celebrate..Being a Winter child it is still funny for me to suddenly celebrate my birthday in Summer.
I am very excited about the quiet days of the year and I really like the days before the year ends. Everything seems to go a little slower which I find very enjoyable....

Glow
It is Summer. I drink hot tea to cool down and look forward to next week. Some days off to relax, read books, work on little projects and to feel salty water on your skin drying in the sun after a cold swim in the sea.
I was looking through the photos of the last year and will post a little review in the next couple of days.
So long, here are some photos I shot with my pentax which I got out of its box after not using it much.
It is Summer and the city is glowing.

Hollie and her colours
A couple of weeks back Mel, her husband and I went to China Heights Gallery to see Hollie Martin's exhibition. I really like Hollie's great sense for colours and shapes. I saw her work last week at the Finders keepers market and remembered the few photos I took at her lovely exhibition. Here you can find an interview Hollie, she also just launched an exhibition on 'Buy Some Damn Art'. Have a look!
Happy weekend to all of you!

Apt corners
Four more corners of our place.
I like to spend time at our home and I often realize how important this place is for me. It's where I can relax the most. I sometimes just sit on the couch and watch the shadow play of the sun which shines through the big tree in front of our window into our apartment. I look forward to the holidays, more quiet time to read some books, finish a couple of craft projects and cook good food.
I haven't done lots of christmas decorating yet but I think we will get a little tree this week. Some ginger bread from my grandma made it safe through customs (smuggled in a box lying between books) :)
