I am back. And what a lovely trip it was. I was looking through the pictures we took over the last couple of days and "Oh London you are just great and I had so much fun".
We had all sorts of weather. Sun in the morning, cloudy bits and of course also rain and a pretty wild wind on Saturday. But it couldn't stop us from exploring the city at all.
I spent the first day by myself as the boy-friend still needed to study. I was prepared with a little map and full of excitement and started my walk along the Thames to SOHO. It is always a little weird for me when I see things, like the London Eye for real which you usually just know from postcards - and suddenly such things are right in front of you - just there.
I stopped by this café Maison Bertaux and had a nice lemon tart and a tea : ) before I continued....looking around, seeing socks with hearts, lovely little houses and also this amazing place La Fromagerie where you could have lunch and also get the most amazing cheese...

Here are the pictures of the first day...

Wednesday is just tomorrow
tonight

It seems this year is the year of little trips to nice cities...
Munich & Dublin in Spring, Copenhagen & Berlin in Summer and tomorrow Ill go on a little trip to London. I haven't been there for such a long time I think I was 17 when two friends and I explored this big and wonderful city and paid 10€ for a coffee : ) but still loved it ....
This time I will pick up my special person who is finishing exams and we celebrate this with giving us five more days in London till we fly back to Hamburg on Sunday...
I look so much forward to walking around the city, taking pictures, having good food, going to museums & little shops ...and just feeling the city

But before this I'll go out tonight and see the amazing Grizzly Bear...and not that this concert would already be enough they are getting supported by St. Vincent and this is just such a great great combination.

Oh and the concert last Tuesday was so great. St. Vincent was so lovely and Grizzly Bear itself just amazing. I can highly recommend it. I forgot my camera at home but it would be hard to capture on an image anyway. Go when you have the chance....

A 3,5 hours train ride away from Hamburg is a village where it is more likely that you know the people you meet on the street than not knowing them, where people speak with a lovely accent and say "Ade" for "bye", where Sunday mornings just seem so quiet because everything is shut and you feel it is a day where everything is allowed to take more time. This is where I grew up...
I really do love and prefer living in a bigger city and I enjoy all the advantages of it but it is just good to come home, see family and friends and dive just for a weekend into old habits, like reading the local paper.
On Saturday my sister, mum and I went to the closest city and we passed the so called Autumn market on the main square where people sell all sorts of things, like very traditionally kitchen stuff, self-made ceramics or wreaths. There is also this stall where you can buy those apron dresses usually old people wear and you can actually only get them on this and the Spring Market which just take place for two weeks every year. I have such memories with such aprons. They are mostly blue-ish checked or with a flowery pattern and my grandmother is getting them there too and is always pretty excited when the time for the markets comes closer. These aprons have pretty big pockets and it seems my grandmother can store everything in them. When I was a kid it was sometimes amazing to see what she had in them, a real handkerchief for tears or the running nose, bonbons for special treats, pens or a piece of paper...it seemed like she had always the right thing in her pockets...

It makes me smile to think of this and I look forward to driving down for Christmas.

I was looking through some old polaroids I took over the years today. Who doesn't love polaroid pictures?!
The colours, the format, the sound and the excitement of the second when you press through and actually capture a scene, a moment, something you would like to keep as a picture...and of course the fun while they are getting developed and finally a real image. After it is completely developed I tend to hold the image for a while in my hand because I know if I would put it into my bag I would like to take it out every five minutes to have a look at it...I still have some packages in the fridge and got two more packages on the flea market the other months which have already expired but I thought they could make even more interesting pictures...will see...

Here is a little film about the SX-70 - I guess lots of people have already seen it but I love to watch it every now and then..because it is so well made and makes me excited to use my polaroid camera...

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend

Orange

orange week

It seems like there are a few orange things which keep me warm and healthy this week.
I got this nice bunch of carrots on the farmers market on Saturday and used some of it for a nice veggie soup. I also got a few oranges which I wanted to use for soaking muesli in it but I just couldn't resist to press all of them last night and have a full glass with fresh orange juice...It was delicious and I could really feel how my body loved it too : )
The pumpkin hasn't been used yet but Ill make one of my favourite Autumn dishes with it. I like pumpkin soup but I just love to eat baked pumpkin slices with rosemary..I guess I know how dinner will look like tomorrow...
Oh and I found the necktube in the mailbox the other day - it is made by my mum and I love it ..it keeps me warm and I can just escape in it when I feel like it...

Winter I am getting prepared....

A Saturday

the glow

no bikes here

subway

zippers

fabric

fabric II

fabric I
fabric

My Saturday didn't start like I thought it would be. Standing in the bathroom and suddenly hearing loud drops coming down from the ceiling made me wondering "what it this sound"...and all I thought was ...pipe burst!

I had so many things in my head I wanted to do today, like going to the farmers market, having a nice breakfast while reading the paper and enjoying the sun and going to the fabric market...but well it is not always like you think ...And it turned out our neighbours upstairs had a leak anywhere in their bathroom...
I went to the farmers market while the plumber was on its way...and realized at home I forgot my apples at any stall there...and after everything was fixed I could finally go the fabric market which took place here this Saturday.
It was funny to see how all women who left the subway were walking into one direction ...getting faster and faster...The fabric market was amazing, so many zippers, meters of all kind of fabrics, knobs, yarns, sewing machines and women.
I got myself some nice fabric which l'll sew some christmas gifts with....oh and I also got the apples back : )

Happy pipe-burst-less weekend : )
