Meran - South Tyrol I

South Tyrol / Meran // SchorlemädchenSouth Tyrol / Meran // SchorlemädchenSouth Tyrol / Meran // Schorlemädchen On our way to Lake Como we stopped in Meran, South Tyrol to spend a few days which is right between Austria and Italy which is why most of the people there speak German and Italian. I must have used a super old film and some got a bit of a funny tone, but I guess that is what you can get with using film :) On other news, I got a new AE-1 at the flea market today for 25EUR, lucky me!

Mountains

South Tyrol // SchorlemädchenSouth Tyrol // Schorlemädchen

I really enjoy being surrounded by mountains, it brings back so many memories from my childhood when I spent some weeks in summer camps climbing up mountains and swimming in icy cold mountain lakes.
On our way to Lake Como we stayed for a few days in Meran in South Tyrol. The drive there from Munich was so stunning and we had to stop every now and then to enjoy the marvelous views and to breathe in the fresh air.

While Wills parents visited us from Australia in June we went to Copenhagen with them for a few days. I have been quite a few times to see friends but it is always so great to come back. Highlight again was our trip to the modern museum Lousiana (1st and 2nd photo). Such a great place!

Summer I

Copenhagen 2015, SchorlemädchenCopenhagen 2015, Schorlemädchen The last days have been so nice and warm here in Germany. We have waited for the warmer weather for quite some time and now it is finally here and we really want to make the most of it. I love the feeling of the wind and air on my bare arms and legs. Matilda and I are spending most of our days outside, walking or me carrying her, enjoying the tickle of the sun on our face, meeting friends, wandering through the streets of Hamburg. We look forward to this weekend, just because there are no plans and that can be pretty nice sometimes. Above photos are from our trip to Copenhagen a few weeks back.

Botanical Gardens Copenhagen

Copenhagen Botanic Gardens / SchorlemädchenCopenhagen Botanic Gardens / Schorlemädchen

We went to Copenhagen in the beginning of June to stay there for a few days and and visited the beautiful Botanical Gardens with its wonderful glasshouse from 1874.
In the glasshouse you can find all kinds of palm trees, ferns and other beautiful plants and you can even go up a few staircases to look at them from above, even though the air gets warmer and warmer with every step you go up and I wasn't able to be that high up for very long.

Hope you enjoy these two snaps.

I enjoy Susanne's recipes and food photography so much
Love Anna's new work
Mieke's wonderful Italy photos (can't wait for the film shots)

Last months we spent a few days in Berlin when Wills parents were here to visit us.
Berlin in Summer is really something else. The city is buzzing and the day doesn't seem to have enough hours to do all the things you want to do (or eat) :) We stayed in Mitte which made it very easy for us as to get around and also to check out all the great places we were surrounded by.

One day we took a bus to the Bauhaus Archive museum which is located close to the Tiergarten.

Last day in Byron Bay

Byron BayByron BayByron BayByron BayByron BayByron Bay

On our last day in Byron Bay we had it was grey and overcast, which didn't stop people going for their surfs, swims or walks at the beach. I enjoyed how different the beach looked when it was not a blue and sunny sky.

At the beach

Byron BayByron BayByron BayByron Bay Summer has arrived in Europe and we spent the last two weeks in Copenhagen and Berlin. Will's parents are visiting and we took them two both places which were also Matilda's first trips. She has been an amazing travel companion. While the photos still on the roll of film and not developed yet you will get to see a few more snaps from our trip to Byron Bay last year. Hope you are well!

More Byron Bay

Byron BayByron BayByron BayByron BayByron Bay

In the last weeks (while becoming and being a mum) there hasn't been much time for taking photos of my life here. When I get a few minutes I sometimes scroll through the posts of this blog of the last years or photos on my computer and travel back in time. Its nice to remember moments like those few days in Byron Bay. The warm sun on the skin, sleeps at the beach, finishing a book...The photos help me to travel there within my little daydreams I have at the moment and I hope they help you and your mind to travel a little bit as well.  :)

Northern Beaches

Untitled UntitledUntitledUntitled UntitledUntitledUntitledUntitledUntitled

A few more beach impressions.
I am trying to bring my camera out for walks here in Hamburg but the light is rare here in Winter so it will take longer to get a roll of film full. We are still waiting to get our container from Sydney until then my digital camera is locked away and all I can show you are some more impressions from Australia. I hope you don't mind. I am also working on my yearly review....hopefully it will be ready soon :) Just a few more days to go.

>< Mieke and Renilde made the wonderful ABC book which I can't wait to receive in the mail. Have a look here.

Leaving Sydney

Leaving Sydney

And then our last week in Sydney arrived.

Even though we have made the decision to move to Germany a few months ago I feel now that we have actually left, we can slowly process the change and realize that it is not just a holiday we are here in Germany for but actually to set up our life again.

I am so grateful for the amazing time I had in my last 4.5 years living in Australia, most of all for the people I met, friends I made and places I have been to. It was a big move back in 2010 but I am so glad I did it and was able to collect all those different experiences and go on many adventures in the last years.

It was a hot Sydney Summer day last Friday, our last day. I got woken up from the noise of the birds outside our friends apartment. Those exotic birds whose songs became so familiar to me over the last years. The Summer light and smells coming through the window and realizing that this will be the last time for a while until I'll feel, hear and see this again. Our bags were all packed up and we had farewelled all our friends over the previous days. So we woke up early and walked through the Botanic Gardens to the Andrew Boy Charlton pool for a final swim. It was a 35C day and it was already quite warm...the Summer sun was standing high and hit the surface of the pool which was glowing in its inviting blue. I put on my goggles and cap and dived into the cool and salty water. Swimming my laps, like the many mornings before work in the last years or late afternoons after work. I put my head under the water, the blue of the tiles seemed so strong due to the midday light and with every move I could see the shades of my hands at the bottom of the tiles of the pool. It was a really nice moment which I wanted to remember as I said goodbye with every lap I swam and seemed to be getting ready to leave after finishing the ritual which I'd gotten so fond of over the years.

We left the pool, our towels around our hips still seeming to be people who are living in that great city but secretly saying goodbye. We went for a last coffee and breakfast to our favorite cafe (Room 10) before we took a taxi and left our street and neighbourhood behind. After an almost 30h trip we arrived in Hamburg, welcomed by dear friends and relieved to finally be here.

The last view days have been all about settling in, catching up with friends, getting used to the different season and trying to find an apartment. It is very exciting to be back and we look forward to everything which is about to come over the next few months. I still have a few photos from Australia which I would love to share with you over the next weeks....

I hope you are all well.
Maria

PS I took the photo earlier this year when we flew back to Sydney from Hobart, Tasmania :)

A studio visit - Pippin Drysdale

A few months ago I showed you some photos of Western Australian artist Pippin Drysdale. When we were back in Perth some weeks ago to see Will's family we had another chance for s sneak peak into Pippin's studio, where she works on the most amazing ceramic pots.

We are packing up our apartment this weekend and the weather is helping us with not feeling too bad being inside all day. It is pouring down this morning. I am secretly hoping that we will be able to going for a swim later on in the afternoon.

Hope you are all having a great weekend,
Maria
